Consumer ignorance has created a sense of complacency and trust that government regulations prevent hazardous chemicals from being marketed. The reality, however, is that the FDA does very little to ensure that cosmetic products are indeed safe. The result is that less than 20% of the ingredients listed on cosmetic labels have been tested for their safety and retailer shelves are filled with chemicals that are known to be carcinogens, neurotoxins and reproductive toxins. Most cosmetic companies assert that there products contain small enough doses of toxins to render their product harmless. This does not take into account that consumers use multiple products daily. Frequent cosmetic use, as well as the overall toxicity in the environment stemming from the production, use, and disposal of these products, has left the population with high toxicity levels; namely lead, flame retardants, mercury, and triclosan.
We highly recommend becoming educated about ingredients as well as the integrity of ingredient labels. Below is a list of ingredients to avoid.
